“Install it and forget it” is our motto. If you use your bike the way the engineers intended, your headset will eventually wear out. The only way to prevent that would be to ride only in dry conditions on bike paths to the ice cream shop. Bearings are, unfortunately, wear parts. But the good news is: if you don’t blast your headset with a pressure washer and use bike cleaners like Muc-Off sparingly around the bearings, you should enjoy your headset for a long time.
