FAQ
The 35 mm clamp results in a larger clamping area between the stem and bar. In addition, the larger cross-section of a 35 mm compared to a 31.8 mm diameter permits the same stiffness with less material or increased stiffness for the same amount of material. In practice, this means that with a 35 mm clamp you can optimise the weight of your cockpit without having to sacrifice stability.
Unfortunately, we can't provide any general recommendations here. This depends on where you use the stem, your riding style, the geometry of your bike and of course your body proportions. For trail use, 50 mm has emerged as the de facto standard. That said, you also see plenty of 40 mm or 60 mm stems.
The mtb stem is fundamentally easy to fit. However, because it connects different parts, you should keep in mind the requirements of your bar and headset. Make sure to check the instruction and stick to the specified fastening torques for these two parts.
We would never dream of forcing you to do something. That's why our stem is compatible with all 35 mm bars. We think that you should only have to buy a new bar when you really need it. Your money is probably better invested in a fun trail weekend with friends.
