A headset is one of those essential and unrecognized components of your bike. And it’s also much more complex than you would think at first glance. Because our engineers spend years tinkering on our is42 headset, you can simply install it, forget about it and enjoy a worry-free time on the bike. We achieve this through our very own stainless steel angular contact bearings. Which feature two double lip seals and our optimized headset grease to protect the bearings and ensure that moisture and dirt are kept outside. That way we offer you a product that’s supposed to last, no matter what your adventure throws at you.

There’s one simple rule when it comes to maximising the lifespan of a headset: the better it is sealed the longer it will last. That’s why our is42 upper part comes with additional well thought-out sealing at the crown race. This prevents water and dirt from even making its way to the bearing, ensuring durability with minimal maintenance effort - so that you can maximize your good time in the saddle.

In unseren zs44 Steuersätzen verbauen wir spezielle Schrägkugellager aus Edelstahl, die die am Steuerrohr auftretenden Radial- und Axialkräften besonders gut bewältigen können und so zur Performance und langen Haltbarkeit des Steuersatzes beitragen.

Die Industriekugellager in unseren Steuersätzen mit einer zweifachen Doppellippendichtung versehen. Sie verhindert, dass Wasser oder Schmutz in das Steuersatzlager eintreten kann und das Lagerfett ausgewaschen wird.

Direkt auf unseren Gabelkonus vulkanisieren wir eine selbstverstärkende Dichtung. So wird das Lager optimal (vor Schmutz und Wasser) geschützt und nur minimale Reibung erzeugt. Wir nutzen ein extra robustes Material, das langlebig ist und nicht spröde wird.

zweifache dichtung im steuersatzdeckel

Zwei im Steuersatzdeckel verbaute Dichtungen bilden eine weitere Barriere gegen Umwelteinflüsse. Eine der Dichtungen schließt den Steuersatzdeckel gegen die Lagerschale bzw. den Rahmen ab, die Andere gegen den Gabelschaft.

Unsere Internal Protection Sealing (IPS) schützt das Kugellager sogar vor Feuchtigkeit im Fahrradrahmen. Denn nicht selten sammelt sich Wasser unter anderem im Steuerrohr und konnte das Lager in der Vergangenheit von innen angegriffen. Gerade bei Fahrrädern mit größeren Rahmenöffnungen und integrierter Zugverlegung ist diese Dichtung entscheidend für eine maximierte Lebensdauer.

glasfaserverstärkter kunststoff

Unsere Zentrierringe fertigen wir mittlerweile aus einem hochfesten, faserverstärkten Kunststoff. Das Material ist kriechfest, sodass sich der Steuersatz nicht setzt und dadurch nicht nachjustiert werden muss. Außerdem gehört damit Knarzen der Vergangenheit an weil wir verhindern, dass Metall auf Metall trifft.

Let's be honest: Nothing is more annoying than bike parts that let you down and require a lot of maintenance, because your time is precious and should ideally be spent on the bike. That's why we rely on a whole range of seals, which together with our special headset grease contribute to maximizing your good times in the saddle.

We develop and manufacture your headset to make it your loyal, inconspicuous companion. Nevertheless, like many other components on a bike, it is a wearing part. But you can combat wear and tear to maximize your worry-free time in the saddle through proper installation and care. Find our assembly instructions as a PDF download on the respective product page of your particular headset.

By the way, we agree: high pressure cleaners are a great, time-saving affair. However, the strong water jet – often over 100 bar – is poisonous for your ball bearings because the high pressure can rinse out the grease. Even the best seals won’t help here if you’re not careful. Therefore avoid water blasting the area around the headset, but also around the bottom bracket and frame bearings. Apart from that, be careful around these areas with bike cleaners like Muc-Off. After all, these cleaners basically work as degreasers that will happily dissolve the grease in your bearings and, as a result, make them wear out much quicker.

PS: Did you know that when having your bike on the car roof in the rain and at high speeds, is similar to cleaning it with a high-pressure cleaner? Accordingly, it is worthwhile to watch your max speed, cover your beloved bike and regularly re-grease your headset.
