our clipless pedal

Feeling insecure on the downhills or feeling inefficient when covering distances... Finding the right clipless pedal to suit your riding style, shoe size or level of experience isn't just a chore, sometimes it can feel downright intimidating and scare you off. With our acros clipless pedals we want to take away any fear of the "click" and imbue our “Ride more, worry less” mantra. The acros clipless pedals give you even more options to position your feet, combined with the unbeatable advantage of always being firmly connected with your bike – exactly where you feel most at home.

The difference to traditional clipless pedals can be found inside, where a sleeve lets you adjust the stance of the pedals – the distance between the cleats. This 5 mm adjustability per pedal can make the difference between confidently launching yourself into the next rock garden or coming to a stop nervously in front of it. At the same time, a 10 mm reduction in stance can also deliver the last bit of efficiency to help you climb the final summit. In times of Super Boost rear ends, riders with large feet have less freedom of movement and can often end up rubbing their feet against the chainstays. Here too, the 10 mm adjustment could make a decisive difference.

Alongside the internal adjustment, we’ve furnished the acros clipless pedals with 4 stainless steel pins each, which deliver grip even when you're not clipped in. As is typical for acros, our clipless pedals are also equipped with high-quality bearings and bushings, and are triple-sealed to prevent dirt and moisture getting inside. We put functionality first, meaning that the svelte black-on-black elegance of our clipless pedals has nothing to hide. On top of that, our acros clipless pedals are equipped with fiberglass-reinforced skid plates, which make getting into them easy despite the stainless pins. Like all high-end clipless pedals, preload and the force required to exit the pedals can be adjusted seamlessly, allowing even clipless newbies to dismount in any situation. All acros clipless pedals are delivered with matching cleats. Thanks to their SPD compatibility, you can also use standard SPD cleats – the swap couldn't be simpler.

For anyone who likes to be securely connected to their bike and wants to be able to adjust their pedal to their personal preferences, our clipless pedal is exactly the right thing. For anyone else who wants to skid into the next trail and feel the ground under their feet, our proven acros flat pedal remain the best choice.

frequently asked questions

Clipless or flat, which will I prefer?

The choice between clipless or flat pedals often triggers a crisis of faith amongst mountain bikers. Clipless fanatics swear by the advantage of being securely connected to your bike in every situation, always having the perfect position on the pedals and being able to push and pull during longer pedalling stages. Flat evangelists prefer the freedom of platform pedals and being able to jump off the bike in any situation – whether they want to or not. That's a particularly handy feature for playful riders. And it's also advisable for mountain biking newbies to complete their first few trail rides with flats.

Do the acros clipless pedals affect the Q-factor?

A term associated with lots of misinformation is the Q-factor. This measurement refers solely to the distance from the outside of the cranks to the centreline of the bottom bracket. Pedals are completely irrelevant. As such: no. Q-factor can't be adjusted with the acros clipless pedals. Only the distance between the two centrelines of the cleats can be adjusted with the spacer inside the pedal – the stance.

technische details

What is stance?

Stance refers to the distance between the two centrelines of the cleats (see Fig. 1). Amongst other thing, stance is responsible for how secure or efficient you feel on your bike. The wider the stance, the more secure you feel on your bike because your feet are further apart. Vice versa, a narrower stance is more efficient as your legs can push in a more vertical plane and force is transmitted more directly to the pedals. As such, the perfect stance is a matter of preference and depends strongly on how you prefer to ride your MTB.

Do I need the skid plates?

The skid plates are there to make clipping in and out of the pedals easier, as the pins could otherwise have too much purchase on the shoe. You can of course also remove the skid plates and see how your shoes interact with the pins and whether you can still get in and out easily in every situation.

Can I use the pedals without pins?

You can of course use the pedals without the pins and skid plates if you want.

How should I set my cleats?

This is a matter of taste and will require a little experimentation. We recommend you choose a favourite stretch of home trail with as much riding variety as possible. Ride this section with a difference cleat position every time until you've found your sweet spot.

Can I use the clipless pedal with Shimano SPD cleats?

We made a conscious decision to use the SPD system for the acros clipless pedals so that you can get spare cleats anywhere in the world and so you don't have to cut your holiday short because you forgot your shoes or lost a cleat while riding.
